Programs – Where does the money go?

All proceeds raised from Kidzilla benefits children and adults with mental, physical, and emotional challenges served by DSI. This includes early intervention, residential options, respite care, job training and placement, support for families, follow-along, and education regarding community resources.

DSI programs

Work-related Services

Industry:
Five industrial sites providing employment experiences for clients and non-disabled individuals to generate revenue for the agency. Funded by income from industrial manufacturers and businesses. Also, supported by Title XX (DDARS) and day service fees for any group home resident . Waiver services fund most consumers in the shop. And the state is the first source of payment for day services everything else is subsidies to make up for what the state doesn't pay.

Supported Employment:
Locating jobs identified by client's preferences in the community. Staff train consumers on the job until the employer is comfortable with their work proficiency. Funded by Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

Follow Along:
Ongoing monitoring of client's success in maintaining community employment. Can involve social as well as work issues and may entail additional client training. Funded by Title XX.

Service Contracts

Lawn Crew:
Service contract that provides mowing, landscaping, and snow removal for area business.

Rest Areas:
Maintenance, cleaning and operation of the northbound and southbound rest areas on Highway 65 near Columbus exits. Funded by a State Use contract.

Janitorial Services:
Provides custodial training and support for contracting companies. Also state use.

Community Connections

Providing assistance to individuals in order that they may participate fully in their community. Supports are developed to enhance volunteer opportunities, acquire living skills, and access recreational and leisure activities.

Children Services

Developmental Therapies:
Staff goes into the child's home and assess developmental progress. Assist families in stimulating "normal" milestones through planned programs.

Service Coordination:
Staff work with families to select providers to assist their children. The programs help families assess all services and ensure enrollment in all relevant programs. Both services are funded through First Steps.

Reach Services

Provides in-home and community-based supervision and education to give families or care providers a break from their considerable responsibilities. REACH offers community-based activities designed to enhance community inclusion. Funded by DDARS and the Medicaid Waiver program.

Group Homes

Community-based homes with 5 – 8 residents each and provides skills training to help residents become more independent. Staff teach residents to function as a contributing member of the household. Funded by the Medicaid program.

Supported Living

Houses or apartments that serve one to three individuals each. May include minimal staff support (2 to 4 hours weekly) to full-time staffing that is 24 hours-a-day. Designed to provide a consumer-directed program that reinforce skills, but does not require the structure of group home living. Funded by the Medicaid Waiver program.

Transportation

Providing round trip transportation to program locations. Also available for use by REACH staff, VR staff and Habilitation Services staff. Vehicles are assigned to each group home. Transportation is funded by Title XX or Medicaid.
